It all starts with some hormones that cause an egg to mature in the woman's body. Please keep in mind that these eggs develop while the woman was in her mother's belly, yes many years before. They finish maturing and are released into pretty much nothing. The fallopian tubes, which are not connected to the ovary, grab the egg and direct it down to the uterus. It is on this journey that the eggs is fertilized, where one sperm gets through the wall of the egg, which it then does not allow any other sperm to enter. Pretty amazing on it's own. After this it is able to implant in the lining which supports the growth of this new little life.
The woman's body then secretes just the right amounts of the perfect hormones to grow this baby, all while maintaining her body. This continues for months, and then as the baby is developed her body starts producing all the hormones to ready her body to go into labor. The hormones secreted in labor induce her body to produce more and more to further her progress.
Once the baby is born her body changes what it does with the same focus, the baby. Now her body produces the correct hormones to make milk. And this is not the same milk the whole time, but the milk is different compositions during the same feeding to meet the needs of the child, as well as changing over time to produce just the right formula that her baby needs right then.

How cool is that! Anyways, I hope I didn't bore anyone, I am continually amazed at what a woman's body is capable of. Maybe this offers a little insight for some into why I am so excited to be on a path to practice medicine and watch life's miracles every day!
