Hospital Update

So he had surgery yesterday. They wanted to drain the abscess through the mouth, but was unable to get it to it, so they had to open his neck. The doctor told us it was the most extensive abscess that he has seen in a child this young, it went from the base of his brain down into the top of his chest. He has about a 2.5 inch incision along his neck which has been draining.


His fever has finally gone down this morning. It was pretty scary yesterday, it just kept climbing and climbing and finally peaked at 40.0, or 104.00 degrees F. That was also with meds to keep it low. He has been sleeping a lot, but now has not been able to keep adequate O2 saturation in his blood. Without giving him oxygen it was dropping down into the low 70's, where anything lower than 90 is bad.

Currently with the O2 turned up (we have to keep upping it every few hours) his sats keep dropping into the low 80's so we are keeping a close eye on him. If things keep going well we should be released Saturday morning. Here are some pictures of my trooper, he is doing so well for all he has been through.


An update on everyone else, Last night Adam went to fix our washing machine, which got a little brush in the motor. In the process all of the water in the washer emptied onto the floor so he had a big mess. Jerrod has been sick with a cough and I guess he was up 5-6 times last night yelling at adam that he wanted me. Then when he decided it was time to get up he got a sharp kitchen knife (adam and drew are sleeping) and starts running them along the cracks on our kitchen table and cuts his finger. Poor kid.

Then this morning Drew started throwing up. They were going to come and be with Gideon for a bit so I could nap, but decided to just bring me breakfast and on their trip Drew puked in our car. Not very happy, so Adam has been such a good dad taking care of the house and the rest of the kids while I watch our sick baby.
